Stage 1 - Achievements to end of 2008
  • Installation of Computer to Plate (CtP) units in Darwin & Alice Springs. Over the past 12 months these this has reduced water usage by around 99% and use of harmful chemicals by 90%.
  • Use of soy-based (vegetable) inks as standard practice. Traditional printing inks are mineral solvent based and contribute to ever-growing greenhouse emissions.
  • Recycling program for all paper and cardboard, which has reduced our landfill waste by around 50% since June 2007.
  • Our waste has been monitored by NT Recycling Solutions; which has established that we have become the Territory - approx 2000 trees from being felled
    - approx 25 000 litres of oil to produce paper from raw materials
    - more than 500 000 KWH of electricity
    - more than 500 cubic metres of landfill
    - more than 4.5 million litres of water
  • Implemented strict paper purchasing and usage policy where all standard stocks used are sourced from certified sustainable forests. These certifications by our paper suppliers are the highest industry standard available and can be tracked back to its source (chain of custody).
  • Completed first draft of Environment Management System (EMS); targeting all key areas; with a view to engaging external audits for water, energy, waste management, recycling and other emissions.
  • Undergone accredited training for key staff in environmental sustainability areas.
  • Implemented toner cartridge recycling program in both Darwin & Alice Springs; including promotion of service to external clients.
