On Wednesday, 8 July 2026, Colemans Printing welcomed Angus Taylor, Federal Leader of the Opposition, to our Darwin facility for an open and constructive discussion about the opportunities and challenges facing manufacturers in the Northern Territory.
The visit came shortly after Colemans Printing was recognised as the 2025 NT Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, providing an ideal opportunity to showcase how local manufacturing continues to play a vital role in supporting Territory businesses, communities, and the broader economy.
Discussing the Realities of Manufacturing in the Territory
Over the course of 90 minutes, we shared first-hand insights into what it takes to operate a manufacturing business in the Northern Territory.
Like many local businesses, we continue to navigate rising freight costs, increasing energy prices, and higher costs for raw materials. These challenges affect manufacturers across a wide range of industries and highlight the importance of maintaining a strong, competitive local manufacturing sector.
While Colemans Printing continues to invest in growth, innovation, and new technology, businesses across the Territory still face operating conditions that differ significantly from those in Australia’s larger metropolitan markets.
Investing in Local Manufacturing
A key focus of the discussion was the importance of protecting and strengthening local manufacturing capability.
For more than 70 years, Colemans Printing has believed that investing locally benefits not only our business but also the wider Northern Territory community. By continuing to expand our manufacturing capabilities, we help support local jobs, reduce reliance on interstate suppliers, and provide faster turnaround times for our customers.
Recent investments in automation, advanced printing technology, and production equipment allow our team to deliver high-quality printing, signage, packaging, labels, and branding solutions while remaining proudly Territory-based.
These investments ensure we can continue providing reliable service, competitive quality, and efficient production without compromising our commitment to local manufacturing.
Supporting the Future of Territory Business
The conversation also reinforced the importance of ensuring Northern Territory businesses have opportunities to remain competitive in an increasingly challenging economic environment.
Issues such as freight costs, energy affordability, workforce development, and supply chain resilience are not unique to one business or one industry. They affect manufacturers, retailers, construction companies, and service providers throughout the Territory.
At Colemans Printing, we believe these conversations are essential and welcome the opportunity to engage with leaders and decision-makers from across the political spectrum whenever it helps advance outcomes for Northern Territory businesses.
Looking Ahead
Receiving the 2025 NT Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award was an important milestone for Colemans Printing, but our focus remains firmly on the future.
We will continue investing in our people, technology, and manufacturing capabilities while supporting businesses across Darwin, Alice Springs, and the Northern Territory with high-quality commercial printing, signage, packaging, graphic design, and branding solutions.
For more than seven decades, Colemans Printing has proudly manufactured locally, employed local people, and supported Territory organisations.
We remain committed to being part of the conversations that help shape the future of Northern Territory manufacturing—not only through the products we create, but through the partnerships we build and the contribution we make to our local economy every day.
